Recent news reports have noted that hunger is on the rise. The northwest has the highest rate of hunger in the nation, and the entire nation is hungrier than it has been in the past three years. Washington has the second highest hunger rate of the nation, Oregon has the first highest, and Idaho is ranked fourth.
We at GBLT are hoping to do our part to counter this trend. We have a basket set up at our center to receive everyone's donations of non-perishable items for the local food banks, and the items are then brought to the Moscow or Pullman food banks by a member.
The local Rosauer's grocery store also has a convenient system for donating to the food banks. They have grocery bags already made up with a variety of healthy items in them, for $5 and $10 each. The contents of the bags are displayed on a tag on the outside of each bag. The customer can purchase these bags, they are then marked "paid", and a representative from St. Mary's comes by every week to pick up the purchased bags and bring them to the food bank. Other grocery stores in the area may have a similar system.
Please take advantage of the various opportunities to remember the hungry in this area and donate to the food banks! And may you all have a blessed and prosperous holiday season!
Many thanks to everyone who participated in the beautiful Long Life Puja for Zasep Tulku Rinpoche held at
Golden Blue Lotus Tara Center this August!
