Howdy GBLTers,
As I write this the wind is blowing strong and it seems like winter has finally
gotten serious. But I know that spring isn't really very far away. With the change
of season we will also have some opportunities for retreat and to see our own
spiritual guide, Ven. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche. You'll find some brief messages in
this newsletter about some of the retreats that will be happening soon, as well as
some info regarding Rinpoche's planned visit in April. I hope everyone will be able
to attend his teachings on Vajrasattva. We are also hoping to have our exam on
Tathagatagarbha (USAT students take note!) and to have a chance for personal
interviews. Please let me know if you are a student of Rinpoche's and would like
to request an interview.
I feel I must also take some time to acknowledge the troubling political
situation that our country and the world have entered. The threat of war lies as
a subtext in our daily activities and I think it must be recognized, even though it
isn't always easy to speak of. I have been anguished by the progress of events and
I'm sure many of you have been as well. I personally have found the greatest relief
by giving up the idea that I must know what to do, how to answer every possible
question. I can only be open to the samsaric sorrow and fear that are in my mind
and abroad in the world. I'm trying to hold these gently and mindfully in my heart.
Through this I hope to be able to face each day and moment with generosity and
compassion. It's times like these that make me truly grateful to my friends and
teachers for what little knowledge of dharma I have gleaned.
Well, I guess that's enough for now. I hope to see you-all again soon. May all
beings be happy and have peace.
Warmest Regards
Brian
