My Poem

That time of year at Kinmount again, Chittamani retreat
This time we repeat her mantras 110,000 times
everyone ponders her power and blessings
although we don't ever really know what they are
it's not so important
we don't ever know anyway until we become Tara.
Teachers tell us as long as we have confidence
in her mantra it will work
Don't the mantras make you sleepy?
Don't the mantras make you yawn?
Don't the mantras make you hungry?
They're working eh? ma ho

~Z. Rinpoche

Rinpoche wrote this poem during the Kinmount Retreat a couple of weeks ago in Toronto. Kinmount is a beautiful retreat center a few hours north of Toronto. Gaden Choling does a retreat there every year.

"eh ma ho" means "what great joy!" and is used in many Tibetan meditation sadhanas.

Words of Truth

"I would like to explain the meaning of compassion, which is often misunderstood. Genuine compassion is based not on our own projections and expectations, but rather on the rights of the other: irrespective of whether a person is a close friend or an enemy, as long as the person wishes for peace and happiness and wishes to overcome suffering, then on that basis we develop genuine concern for his or her problem. This is genuine compassion."   ~H. H. Dalai Lama
