Where is the church?
We have two separate church buildings. The Genesee
Valley church is located east of Genesee about seven miles. St. John's church is on the northwest end of town. (See maps.) If you need a ride, please contact us.
|
|
How formal are the services?
Because we have members with many interests, we vary our services. We welcome special music and enjoy the talents of our members. Worshippers' dress differs, according to preference.
|
|
What is communion like?
All are welcome at the Lord’s Table. Communion includes bread and wine or grape juice, plus a special blessing for children who have not communed for the first time yet.
|
|
What happens during the service?
Worshippers enter the front of the church, are greeted at the doors entering the sanctuary and given the church bulletin which will guide you through the service. You may sit anywhere. Music, prayer, and fellowship all occur before the service depending on the occasion.
Announcements are made. Hymn numbers are listed on the wall near the altar. The bulletin leads you through the liturgy and service.
Members of the parish assist in greeting, ushering, reading, assisting with communion, and offering music and special talents.
Several readings from the Bible, including the Gospel, lead us to the message given by the pastor. We sing several hymns and offer our hearts and gifts to the Lord.
Following the service, the candles are put out and the pastor walks to the door at the back of the sanctuary where he greets the exiting worshippers. Most choose to follow the crowd downstairs to the Fellowship Hall where goodies, coffee, and juice are offered.

Where do I park?
St. John's provides parking behind the church, to the side of the church, and in front of the church. Generous neighbors share the parking in front of their homes also.
Genesee
Valley offers a large parking lot to the side of the building. Extended parking is available below the large parking lot. Handicapped parking is available behind the church. Some who prefer less strenuous walks to the front of the church, park in front of the building.
|
|
Is there handicapped access?
Handicapped parking is available on the east side of St. John's. To access the sanctuary, enter the side door and use the elevator to the second level.
Genesee
Valley has handicapped parking near the cemetery behind the chapel. Enter the back door and walk through to the sanctuary. To get to the Fellowship Hall, follow the sidewalk to the door on the side of the church.

What is available for my children?
Devoted Sunday School teachers offer lessons, music, and activities for your children. We have moved Sunday school to the Catholic Center
which is 1/2 block from St. John's
in order to have enough room for all the children! Sunday School teachers walk the children from St. John's to the Catholic Center and back again.
Children's Sermon is an integral part of each Sunday's lesson. During the service, all children and youth (and parents, if they choose) are invited to sit at the front of the church with Pastor to explore "The Box." Each service, a different child is asked to bring a special box, in which the child has placed some special object (The only rule is that nothing Alive or that Used to Be Alive can be in the box!). Then pastor and his co-teacher develop a lesson from the object for the children. After the lesson, the children and congregation in a special prayer and resounding AMEN!
Family "Movie Night" is offered one or two Saturday evenings a month at 6 p.m. Family-friendly movies are viewed in the Fellowship Hall (basement) of St. John's, and lots of goodies are consumed! Other events are planned for the children and youth of the church, including overnighters, which include lots of food, fun, and friendship. Other activities have included camping trips, star-gazing and marshmallow roasts, after school activities, crafting fun, Summer Camp events, and more.

We love having the children join us during worship. If you need a little “alone time” with your children a nursery is provided in the basement of St. John's and in the back of the sanctuary is a windowed "quiet room" if you wish a bit more privacy and still want to be part of the service. Genesee Valley
has a children's table downstairs in the Fellowship hall for children who prefer a break.
