Title:  Dating Violence

Is My Relationship Healthy?

 

Intended Audience: High school students

 

Abstract:  This skill building presentation will inform students about dating violence by examining the difference between unhealthy and healthy relationships.  Discussion will include definitions, statistics and role-plays focused on identifying indicators of abusive relationships and key components of healthy relationships.

Abstract:  This presentation is based on Keeping the Faith by Reverend Marie Fortune.  This presentation describes the reactions and feelings of a victim of domestic violence and how this relates to specific teachings and scriptures found in the Bible.

Safety Planning with Victims of Domestic Violence

Abstract:  This presentation is designed to equip participants with strategies to employ when assisting victims of domestic violence develop personalized safety plans.  This presentation will cover safety planning for those victims who choose to leave and for those who choose to stay, including safety planning when children are involved.

Title: Your Community Crisis Center

An Overview of Domestic Violence Awareness

 

Intended Audience:  College students, general public

 

Abstract: This presentation will inform participants of the prevalence and dynamics of domestic violence using statistics, the role of power and control in abusive relationships and definitions of psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. Discussion will be based on continuums of domestic violence, barriers to leaving an abusive relationship, and recognizing warning signs of a potential abuser.  In addition to information and discussion of domestic violence, this presentation explains ATVP services and the role of an ATVP advocate in assisting a victim/survivor of domestic violence.

Title:  A Look at the Batterer:

          Reviewing Programs and Theories of Intervention

Abstract:  The goal of this presentation is to review characteristics that make up batterers, review intervention programs and discuss theories of intervention.  Participants will be equipped with an understanding of the various programs available, the objectives of treatment programs and local programs that offer support.

Abstract: This presentation was established to assist participants in recognizing the relationships that exist between domestic violence and chemical dependency as well as breaking the myths that exist between the two distinct victimizations.  Participants will learn skills in recognizing symptoms of substance use, misuse, and abuse while also acquiring valuable knowledge on how to assist clients with domestic violence and substance abuse victimization.

Abstract:   This skill building presentation is designed to inform future medical professionals as well as adults about what medical advocacy consists of.  The topics will include general sexual assault information, victimization statistics for female and male victims of SA, drug-facilitated sexual assault, explanation of exams that are available to victims and a review of federally funded programs available to victims (Crime Victims Compensation).

Discussing the definition of sexual assault, the explanation of the different types of exams for rape victims and taking the time to walk through a rape kit was very useful.

Abstract: This presentation gives a brief overview of sexual assault and describes the ABC’s of campus rape: Alcohol, Brief-Encounters and Consent.  Each of these subjects are identified as key elements contributing to campus rape.  Presenters will also review the victim’s experience, risk reduction strategies and community resources available to victims, service providers and others.

          Is My Relationship Abusive?

Abstract:  This presentation provides information about healthy and unhealthy relationships including each individual’s personal rights and responsibilities in a dating relationship, boundaries, abusive behaviors, and current dating violence statistics.  The presentation also defines abusive behavior and non-stranger rape, with a concentration on drug-facilitated sexual assault with a focus on alcohol.  In its conclusion, the presentation addresses dating safety and risk reduction strategies.
