FOS Success

We did it!  We surpassed our FOS Goal of $52,000 as our fair share of the Council Friends of Scouting 2006 Campaign.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this the most successful drive we have ever run!

A special thanks to our Finance Chair, George Canney and the Table Captains and drive leaders who spent many hours getting us organized for this accomplishment.

Great Cuboree

150 people spent a beautiful day at this year’s Spring Cuboree.  Morning activities had everyone busy learning about how computers work, water safety, and how to shoot a muzzleloader, BB gun and wrist rocket. The kids found a turtle in the water spy scope bucket and tried to decide if it was real before they made their own scope to take home.  The pop bottle rockets flew high and wild to the wows of all the on-lookers.  In the afternoon Bosco showed us how he helps the Whitman county sheriff’s deputies sniff out drugs. The WSU chemistry club made elephant toothpaste, burned gummy bears and made homemade ice cream and slime for everyone.

Popcorn Training
August 10, 2006

This is a change of date—please change your calendar.

Training will be held for someone from your unit who will head up your Popcorn Sales Campaign for 2006.  It will be at 7 PM at SimpsonUnited Methodist Church in Pullman, and will last about an hour.  Please send your Popcorn Kernel or a representative to get the information.  This is a must training if your unit is to get the maximum return from your sales this fall.

Program Kick-Off
August 17, 2006

We will kick-off our new Scouting season at 7 PM, August 17, 2006 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman.  This is the same place we hold monthly Roundtables.

Council Unit Planning Kits and District Calendars and other information will be given to each unit.

Please have a unit representative present at this important meeting so you get these useful materials promptly.

Program Planning

August is the time to prepare your general plans for the coming year so that your unit allows for key Council and District events when picking dates for unit activities.  Experienced leaders have learned that a little planning goes a long way on helping make their unit accomplish the goal of helping each youth to advance in rank and learn to obey the Scout Oath and Law.

Boys join Scouting to have “FUN,” not to have their character improved.  Be sure that you have plenty of “fun” activities in your program.  There are a number of published studies that confirm that boys learn best by doing things.  They need to move around and use their hands as well as their brains.  Scouting leaders recognized this years ago.  If you follow the ideas outlined in the current training materials, you will be able to plan a great program for the 2006-2007 program year.

Training Plans

When doing your annual planning, please plan for the training of new adults, and supplemental training for all adults.

Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training
September 2006
Indoor Training Sep. 9, 2006, 8:30 AM to 4 PM
at Sacred Heart Church Parish Hall, 440 NE Ash St., Pullman
Outdoor Training Sep. 22-24, 2005 at the Fall Camporee
If you are a new leader or have not taken recent training, plan to attend our fall 2006
Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Training. This is a fast-paced, 'boy-real', fun training course
on the basics of Boy Scouting.   We will cover Scouting principles and all the 'behind-the-scenes
running of a successful Scout troop.   Finance, troop meetings, patrol method, outdoor skills, boy
teaching tips, advancement, and much more.
All leaders are expected by the BSA to take training, and it is a lot of fun--it will make your
Scouting experience, and that of your boys, that much more fun and effective.
     Early signups are encouraged.
